Software Piracy in Japan May 23, 2006

The Business Software Alliance has published its annual report on software piracy. Press release here.
Software piracy rates for Japan were the same as the previous year, at 28%. The cost, USD1.6B last year.

The worldwide rate was 35%, top ranking pirates were Vietnam, Zimbabwe, Indonesia, China, Pakistan, Khazakstan, Ukraine, all posting 85%+ scores. At the low end, U.S. (21%), New Zealand (23%), Australia (26%), Finland (26%).

In terms of financial cost of piracy, the US tops the list at $6.9B, China $3.9B, France $3.1B, Germany $1.9B, UK $1.8B, Russia $1.6B, Japan $1.6B. Total global cost, $34B.
